Styx River Resort was initially part of the Kampgrounds Of America KOA network of campgrounds developed in the mid-1970s. The campground was built alongside a full-scale water park, first of its kind along the Gulf Coast. The campground and water park proved to be winners with both the local population and the many campers travelling along Interstate 10 next to the resort.

In 1983 the campground was bought by Venture Out Inc. and turned into a private, membership campground. Venture Out added Styx River to its holdings of more than fifteen private campgrounds in the United States. The private membership concept proved to be a hit and many improvements were made to the resort. A beautiful clubhouse, indoor pool, and camper accommodations were some of the improvements to Styx River.

Gemini Funding Company, Inc. purchased Styx River Resort in 1988 when Venture Out sold off its resort holdings. Gemini Funding Company has owned and operated Styx River Resort since 1988 and transformed the resort into the finest along the Gulf Coast. Styx River Resort has been "sold out" since 1994 and continues to sell a few memberships per year to cover members that have expired. More than 2400 member families are a part of Styx River Resort, with members residing in more than 32 different states including some from Canada & Europe. Our diverse member base keeps Styx River Resort active and busy throughout the year with activities and amenities available to members of all ages.

Styx River Resort has developed into a full service resort community with twenty four hour security, sit down restaurant, beautifully appointed cabins, private meeting center, huge clubhouse, indoor/outdoor pools, indoor/outdoor spas, and of course our pristine river with nature trails, canoeing & tubing.
